The Jimi Hendrix Experience were an Anglo-American rock band formed in London in 1966 by guitarist, singer and songwriter Jimi Hendrix, bassist Noel Redding and drummer Mitch Mitchell.
Managed by Chas Chandler, the trio rapidly became one of the most innovative and influential bands in rock history, redefining electric guitar music through Hendrix’s virtuosic playing, psychedelic experimentation and groundbreaking use of studio technology. Across three landmark studio albums—Are You Experienced, Axis: Bold as Love and Electric Ladyland—the Experience produced enduring classics including ‘Purple Haze’, ‘Hey Joe’, ‘The Wind Cries Mary’, ‘Foxy Lady’, ‘Little Wing’, ‘Voodoo Child (Slight Return)’ and ‘All Along the Watchtower’.
Despite existing for only a few years, the Jimi Hendrix Experience transformed psychedelic rock, blues rock and hard rock, leaving a lasting influence on generations of musicians.
