James Brown was an American singer, songwriter, dancer, bandleader and record producer widely known as the ‘Godfather of Soul’.
One of the most influential musicians of the 20th century, Brown transformed popular music through his groundbreaking innovations in soul, rhythm and blues and funk. Beginning his career in the 1950s with The Famous Flames, he went on to release landmark songs including ‘Papa’s Got a Brand New Bag’, ‘I Got You (I Feel Good)’, ‘It’s a Man’s Man’s Man’s World’, ‘Get Up (I Feel Like Being a) Sex Machine’ and ‘The Payback’.
