Sylvester Stallone wants Ryan Gosling to play Rambo
Sylvester Stallone has claimed Ryan Gosling should be the next person to play Rambo, and revealed they have already discussed the role.
When appearing on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, Stallone detailed the time he met up with Gosling, with their conversation quickly turning to the legacy of the legendary action movie.
“I met [Gosling] at a dinner,” Stallone said. “[Gosling] goes, ‘I was fascinated by Rambo, and I used to go to school dressed as Rambo, and people would chase me away, and I still didn’t stop. I’d vacation as Rambo.'”
He added, “He just kept saying that he had a lot of affiliation with Rambo. “And I thought, you know, this is interesting. If I ever pass the baton, I’ll pass it on to him because he loves the character.”
Only Stallone has played John Rambo, with his first appearance being in the original film First Blood, which was released back in 1982, birthing an action movie franchise.
Continuing to express his approval of a future Gosling Rambo, Stallone noted, “I would say yes, but I don’t know if anyone would say, ‘Hey, he’s too good-looking to be Rambo.'”
He signed off on the matter, “Obviously, we were opposites. He’s good-looking. I’m not. Seriously! Could you imagine me as Ken? It doesn’t work at all.”
In 2011, Gosling said to Jay Leno of his love of Rambo: “When I was a kid, I saw Rambo: First Blood – the movie put a spell on me, and I thought I was Rambo. I even thought my face felt like Sylvester Stallone’s. And I put a bunch of steak knives in my Fisher Price Houdini kit. I took it to school the next day, and I threw them at all the kids at recess. I got suspended, rightfully so, and I’m sorry. I never did anything like that again.”
The actor added: “So my parents were like, ‘This guy can’t watch movies. They have too much of an effect on him.’ So I could only watch Bible movies and National Geographic movies. So the next week, I came to school, and I hit a kid in the neck with a blow dart [laughs]. That’s not true; that’s a joke!”
