Sylvester Stallone originally pitched an AI de-aged ‘Rambo’ prequel

Sylvester Stallone believes there is one solution for being aged out of roles in Hollywood: AI.

Stallone didn’t quite make the running for the new John Rambo origin story movie, which is already in the works and is set to star The Recruit actor Noah Centineo. That didn’t stop him from brainstorming how he might still be involved.

Speaking with The Playlist’s Bingeworthy podcast, the Hollywood veteran explained his own idea for a different type of Rambo prequel, one that would allow him to still play the ferocious frontman. He wanted to do the whole film and let AI de-age his features.

“Everyone thought I was crazy,” he recalled, continuing, “AI is sophisticated enough to go through Saigon to see him at 18 years old and basically use the same image. So it isn’t as big a stretch.”

Beyond his AI idea, Stallone went on to address the difficulty Centineo might face when attempting to take on the iconic character. He shared, “It’s very, very hard. He may do a stellar job, but you’re overcoming this because I went through it with ‘Get Carter’. Everyone loves the original, and then you’re always fighting that prejudice,” he said, likening the challenge to being ‘the son of Tarzan’ or ‘The son of King Kong.’”

Despite his desire to let AI take over his day job, Stallone will soon share a memoir with fans. The official synopsis for the book, set for a May 5th release, reads, “In a narrative framed between his arrival in New York City in 1969 and the triumph of Rocky at the 1977 Academy Awards, Stallone weaves a vivid and propulsive portrait of struggle, subsistence, and ultimately success. He writes of his early days and later years, too, and the persistence, creativity, and resilience that led not only to the creation of Rocky but to a career filled with remarkably iconic roles.”

No release date for the Rambo remake has been announced. Stallone will next star in the fourth season of Tulsa King on Paramount+.
