Sylvan Esso navigate growing up on new video for ‘The Glow’
Following the duo’s brilliant album release of What Now back in April, a truly terrific ‘difficult’ second album which only looked to cement the band’s talents, Sylvan Esso have never looked back. The newest track to be released comes fully-formed with a charming video.
‘The Glow’ is one of those smiling songs. You know the type, the ones where no matter your timing or placement you can’t help but feel the toe begin to tap and the facial muscles tighten around the edges of your lips, the video is similarly sun-shining through adversity. The clip sees the band perform amid neon lights and a bouncing crowd as they video is intersected with youths trying to make their way through life unscathed by adolescent adages.
Of the video, director Elise Tyler said “Part of growing up is balancing the wonder and awe you have for the adult world mixed with a horrible feeling of emptiness – a mood switch that can flipped anytime, anywhere. Music, friends, sex, rebellion – we look to each of these to fill that seemingly unending void. I wanted to explore that tender space that occupies so much of our youth, building upon the song’s lyrics, where friends are idolised, music saves you, and every night feels like the most exciting night of your life”.
