Sydney Sweeney lands role in literary-horror movie ‘Hollow’
Sydney Sweeney is set to star in Hollow, a reimagining of the gothic thriller The Legend of Sleepy Hollow. It marks the first major project announced under her newly formed production company, Honey Trap.
The 28-year-old will star in the movie adaptation of screenwriter Lindsey Anderson Beer’s debut novel, Hollow. The project boasts an official release date of autumn 2027.
Beer’s novel is a headstrong reimagining of Washington Irving’s 1820 short story The Legend of Sleepy Hollow, which follows Ichabod Crane, a schoolteacher in a haunted New York settlement, who vies for the hand of wealthy heiress Katrina Van Tassel.
Beer’s recent rewrite tells the spooky story through the perspective of Van Tassel, who Sweeney will play. She soon finds herself trapped in a seductive supernatural love triangle.
Alongside Sweeney’s production company, Margot Robbie’s production company, LuckyChap, is also on board to produce alongside Beer for her Lab Brew banner.
Beer is known widely in the industry for her work writing and directing Pet Sematary: Bloodlines, as well as penning the screenplay for the teen comedy-drama Sierra Burgess Is a Loser.
The Legend of Sleepy Hollow has enjoyed the cinematic remake treatment several times; it was first depicted in the 1922 silent film The Headless Horseman.
Since then, its most famous depiction was executed by gothic icon Tim Burton and starred Johnny Depp as Crane and Christina Ricci as Van Tassel.
Sweeney is no stranger to the world of literary adaptations; last year, she starred alongside Amanda Seyfried in the Lionsgate thriller, The Housemaid, which surpassed $400 million at the global box office. A follow-up is expected in 2027.
The Christie star was most recently seen in the final series of Sam Levinson’s Euphoria, where she played an OnlyFans model attempting to pull her husband, played by Jacob Elordi, out of debt.
