At Far out we endeavour to bring you some of the best, new music from all corners of the globe that, despite your shared love for soul satisfying sound in which, generally, the guitar is a catalyst, you may not have had the pleasure of wrapping your lobes around yet. So, continuing in that vein, we’re delighted with our latest treasure hunt; digging up and introducing Los Angeles three piece, Susan and ‘Just Call It’ – part of their three tune debut record – as our Track of the Day.
Signed to San Diego wax merchants, Volar Records Susan, in their own words are “comprised of three humanoids who happen to play instruments and share a love for champagne cocktails”. It’d be great to leave it at that yet, as a journalistic rule of thumb, I must explain that, in fact, Susan is made up of Jessica Owen (guitar/vox), Beth Borwell (bass/backing vox) and Katie Fern (drums/backing vox) and as well as being partial to a few jars of the old bubbly, they seemingly enjoy making some pretty smart tunes (to be expected if your named influence is the Marine Girls!)
Being pedantic, I’d say that the recording of Just Call It doesn’t doesn’t actually do the band the biggest of favours; I imagine that thrashy, punky style and sound really hits home when you catch these guys live, but hey, you can’t win them all.
