Bat For Lashes has released her first-ever live album, Livestream At Home. Los Angeles, 2021, through Bandcamp.
The album is made up of a virtual performance Natasha Khan gave last month. The performance was made up of numerous tracks from Bat For Lashes’ extensive back catalogue with the addition of her Carpenters cover ‘We’ve Only Just Begun’.
When reflecting on the prolonged period of flux that the current coronavirus pandemic has enforced on the world of music and the planet as a whole, Khan said: “For me personally, it was sort of a sigh of relief,” as part of an interview with Stereogum. “I was four months pregnant and I already felt there was a vulnerability performing on stage. It was very emotional for me and it was really beautiful to be singing while I had my baby in my tummy growing, but I was definitely ready to go inward. [Shutdown] coincided with the incubation of growing this baby, with everything just becoming very quiet and very home-based.”
Adding: “There was a lot of gardening and a lot of exercising gently and going for walks and spending time with my partner and nesting in the house.”
It is in that deeply emotional and personal sentiment that the new Bat For Lashes live album thrives – and it makes for a truly compelling listen.
