‘Stranger Things’ star Finn Wolfhard announces debut solo album ‘Happy Birthday’

Finn Wolfhard, best known for his roles in Stranger Things and Ghostbusters, has announced details of his debut solo album, Happy Birthday, which is set for release on June 6th through AWAL. He’s also shared the vibrant new single ‘Choose The Latter’.

Although this is set to be Wolfhard’s debut solo album, he has been making music for many years. He initially began as the vocalist and guitarist in Calpurnia, who parted ways in 2019. Wolfhard then formed his new band, The Aubreys, who released a smattering of singles throughout 2020 and 2021.

In 2022, the wheels began turning on Wolfhard’s debut solo album when he challenged himself to write 50 songs within a calendar year. Now, the culmination of that challenge has arrived on Happy Birthday which features nine tracks.

Wolfhard said of the album: “I ended up writing a lot of terrible stuff, but a few of those songs I was really proud of went to the Aubreys. I started realizing a general theme in a lot of the other songs involving my identity, anxieties, nostalgia, childhood and loneliness. All of that was a part of a bigger puzzle. I knew I wanted to make a record, but I didn’t know with which songs.”

He also explained how making music has provided him with a vital creative escape after rising to fame at a young age following the global success of Stranger Things.

The actor and musician noted that it acted as “a way for me to establish control for myself and a little bit of peace. Music for me has always been something that I can control. And while I’m really grateful for acting and for a long time, it really provided me that peace, it’s just a different thing now that I’m an adult and that it’s a career. I still enjoy it a lot, but when I am by myself and get to play guitar and write a song, it’s a different kind of feeling I’m after.”

In celebration of the album, Wolfhard will also play a series of headline dates across North America in June, beginning in Los Angeles at the Lodge Room on June 5th.
