Stormzy may have given a generation-defining headlining performance at this year’s Glastonbury Festival but the artist, having blown out his in-ear sound, was sure he’d “fucked it”.
In a new interview with Q, the grime artist, who has gone on to showcase the genre at the highest of levels, revealed that he believed he had blown his chance at Glastonbury 2019.
The artist had taken a somewhat surprising headline slot for this year’s event with his short repertoire being enriched by his epic performance. But the rapper revealed that early on in the set his equipment let him down and because of it he thought he’d blown the performance.
Stormzy said: “It was the most difficult thing I’ve ever done. When I walked off stage I thought I’d fucked it. I thought it was the worst thing I’d ever done. I came off stage and thought I’d totally, absolutely blown it. I was crying for, like, an hour. I was in hysterics. Heartbroken, man.”
He revealed that Emily Eavis gave Stormzy a memory stick of the performance. “About halfway through [watching it] I was like, ‘Shit, it all went all right,’” Judging by the video below, he did more than alright.
