Stormzy has been having a pretty incredible year. Hitting number 1 with his (independent album was one thing but his break in to the populist music scene with a Grime act is something which can never be denied. The way he has done it however is even greater.
On his new album Gang Signs and Prayers the artist travelled through a huge array of emotions, something not seen in grime so often. One key theme on the album was Stormzy’s battle with mental health, especially considering the rise to fame he has had.
The subject matter however has been ruthlessly exploited by the NME and last night Stormzy let the world know. The front cover of this week’s free issue is “Depression: It’s time to talk” with “Wise words from Stormzy, Gaga, Bastille and more”. A worthy cause of course but the magazine used the chart-topping artist’s image without prior permission, which led to a series of angry tweets.
@NME You lot are a bunch of real life fucking pussyholes. Proper dickheads. We’ve had a good relationship before this, why do you think

@NME and you go and do it in the biggest pussyhole, sly way possible. Bunch of fucking paigons

@NME again, my issue is not about me speaking out about it. That is fine and I’m happy I’m able to help but they’ve been very foul here
