Stevie Nicks rules out Fleetwood Mac reunion
After releasing her latest single, ‘The Lighthouse’, Fleetwood Mac frontwoman Stevie Nicks has said that there have been no plans for her to reunite with her former bandmates following the passing of Christine McVie.
The band had played their final shows with McVie back in 2019 on the An Evening with Fleetwood Mac tour. Following the conclusion of the run, McVie passed away in 2022 after suffering a stroke brought on by her battle with metastatic cancer.
From then on, the group effectively ended, with both Mick Fleetwood and Nicks previously saying that there had been no plans of them getting back together for any reason.
Now, in a new issue of Rolling Stone, Nicks says that the magic that comes from her solo songs is something that no version of Fleetwood Mac could replicate.
When pressed about the details surrounding the group’s demise, Nicks said that it all ended when McVie passed away, saying, “There is no more Fleetwood Mac now, because when Christine [McVie] died, Fleetwood Mac died. We cannot replace her.”
This echoes the sentiment that Nicks had back when McVie’s death was announced, saying that there was “no chance” that the band would get back together, adding, “Without her, it couldn’t work”.
In the days before her death, Nicks also said that she had not talked to the keyboardist since the group’s 2019 tour, citing different time zones as the reason they never got together. Though she was encouraged not to visit when she was sick, Nicks considered McVie one of her “musical soulmates.”
She added, “We were the keepers of Fleetwood Mac, and that is why we cannot replace her. We did replace Lindsey [Buckingham] two times, and it was OK. No fighting, super fun. But Christine was different.”
What has Stevie Nicks done since Fleetwood Mac’s breakup?
Following McVie’s death, Nicks has continued to tour the world, performing a run of dates co-headlining alongside 1970s legend Billy Joel. After releasing her latest single, ‘The Lighthouse,’ she has also begun work on a new solo tour, which will cover over 40 dates. This included a massive date in Hyde Park, where she was joined by Harry Styles for the encore. Since then, she has dedicated her performances of ‘Landslide’ to McVie’s memory.
As she is set to take to the road, Nicks remarked that she will never lose the desire to tour, saying in the new interview, “What I wanted to do my whole life was affect people. I love telling my stories onstage. That is what makes me happy, and that’s why I’ll never stop touring. Because if I stop touring, then I’ll stop dancing. I [will] do 40 shows. That’s what Fleetwood Mac used to do.”
