After several statements of a planned ‘retirement’, it seems as though director Steven Soderbergh is well and truly back in the filmmaking business, Now, the first trailer for his latest film, No Sudden Moves, has been released in the past few hours.
With a stacked cast including Don Cheadle, Benicio Del Toro, Ray Liotta, Jon Hamm, Kieran Culkin and a rejuvenated Brendan Fraiser, Soderbergh’s latest takes place on the crime-ridden streets of 1950’s Detriot and centres in on a gang of criminals. Led by Cheadle and Del Toro, the story follows a simple robbery that goes drastically wrong, leading each gang member to question each others’ motives to find out what’s really going on.
If not for the COVID pandemic, the cast would be even more crammed with talent, with John Cena, and George Clooney each having to walk away from the project due to clashing commitments. Speaking about the production in early 2020 Soderbergh commented, “The last time I shot a movie in Detroit with a great script and a great cast things worked out really well, so I’m very excited behind my mask right now”.
Exuding a smart, sophisticated style, Steven Soderbergh’s latest release looks to be a must-watch for any fan of classic crime, fit with masks, mystery and murder. The turnaround from trailer to release is a fast one, with the film set to land on HBO’s new streaming platform HBO Mac on July 1st.
