Stephen King movie ‘Salem’s Lot’ set to arrive on Max
After several years in post-production, an adaptation of Stephen King‘s Salem’s Lot is finally set to arrive in 2024.
The movie, which has been written and directed by Gary Dauberman, has been ready for release for quite some time, with filming reportedly completed in 2021.
However, due to the merger between WarnerMedia and Discovery Inc., the movie’s release date has been up and in the air. There were plans for Salem’s Lot to be screened in theatres, but now Warner Bros. Discovery has announced that it will simply go straight onto the streaming service Max.
The news comes shortly after King took to X, formerly Twitter, to comment on the amount of time that the movie has been sitting in completion, believing that it deserves to be released as soon as possible.
He wrote, “Between you and me, Twitter, I’ve seen the new SALEM’s LOT and it’s quite good.”
Commenting on the quality of the movie, King added: “Old-school horror filmmaking: slow build, big payoff. Not sure why WB is holding it back; not like it’s embarrassing, or anything. Who knows. I just write the fucking things.”
The movie stars Lewis Pullman, Spencer Treat Clark, and Makenzie Leigh and follows a man named Ben Mears, portrayed by Pullman, who visits the town he grew up in as a child, making the shocking discovery that its residents are now vampires.
Salem’s Lot has been adapted several times before, as have many of King’s works, with the first version being a 1979 CBS television miniseries.
Despite the news that Salem’s Lot will be released at some point this year, an official release date has not yet been revealed, nor has a trailer.
