Oscar winner Taika Waititi has been confirmed by Disney and Lucasfilm as the next director of the new “Star Wars” feature film. Waititi will also be co-writing the new flick with the Krysty Wilson-Cairns.
Today would be the day to announce a new Star Wars film is on the way. Outside of the original saga but within the known Star Wars universe, the new films is still got people very excited and the news Waititi will be directing will likely please them further.
Waititi is a known Star Wars fan and not only directed a few episodes of The Madolorian but also offered up some voice parts for the show too. It was then that rumours of his appointment began to grow.
Waititi has worked with Disney’s Marvel Cinematic Universe before on Thor: Ragnarok and now the upcoming Thor: Love and Thunder. The director will be writing his Star Wars film with 1917 screenwriter Krysty Wilson-Cairns.
Following his Oscar win for Best Adapted Screenplay earlier this year with Jojo Rabbit the director has become one of the hottest name sin Hollywood and his appointment will be a welcome sight for many Star Wars fans. Wilson-Cairns was also Oscar-nominated, in the Best Original Screenplay category this year for writing Sam Mendes’ 1917.
