Spinn has shared their bright, encompassing brand new single ‘Billie, which features Yumi Zouma’s Christie Simpson on guest vocals.
The brand new track is taken from their forthcoming EP, which is set to arrive this May. The Liverpudlian indie-pop hotshots shared their self-titled debut record back in 2019 and returned last year for a one-off single, ‘Stuck On A Feeling’, with ‘Billie’ acting as the first teaser of their upcoming mini-release, which acts as the beginning of Spinn 2.0.
Managing to recruit Yumi Zouma’s Christie Simpson to appear on the track was a coup for the Scousers, and her vocal contributions add another layer to their sound, which plays a lovely one-two with frontman Johnny Quinn’s voice.
“With social media there is a lot of pressure on us and our relationships to be ideal; but obviously neither of these things are perfect – that’s what ‘Billie’ is about,” Quinn explains about the track. “It’s somebody who is reflecting on a relationship that’s ended and realising that it wasn’t perfect and nor are they. They’re coming to an understanding that no matter how hard we try, our lives don’t always work out the way we plan. There’s a good life lesson in there, somewhere.
“I’ve been a fan of Yumi Zouma for a while, so I was made-up when Christie agreed to sing with me. We’ve only met once and I was really nervous as I’m such a big fan, but she was really great and chatty. I was blown away when I heard her sing ‘Billie’ in the studio and after a year of not touring, I was almost embarrassed to sing along with her – she blew me out the water.”
The first chapter of the Spinn story concluded with a sold-out headline show at Liverpool O2 Academy, and their music has that same Scouse heart to it that bands like The Coral or Circa Waves have in droves. ‘Billie’ is a swirling effort that acts as a delightful appetiser as they enrol on the next part of their journey.
