Soft Play announce tenth-anniversary edition of debut album, ‘Are You Satisfied?’

Soft Play, formerly known as Slaves, are set to release a special edition of their debut album, Are You Satisfied?, under their new band name.

Upon release in 2015, it put the duo on the map, landed within the top ten of the UK Album chart, and scored a Mercury Prize nomination. Now, to commemorate the ten-year anniversary, a new deluxe edition is set to be released on August 29th.

Soft Play’s Laurie Vincent said in a statement: “Ten years since we released our debut album. ‘Are you satisfied?’ Took us places we never dreamed were reachable and it was the foundation our career was built upon. It only feels right to re issue it with our new improved name.”

The new edition of Are You Satisfied? offers a full, comprehensive compilation of the early chapter of Soft Play’s career with eight further tracks, including fan favourites such as ‘Where’s Your Car Debbie?’, ‘OK’, and ‘I Shine My Shoes With A Dirty Vest’.

Their iconic appearance in BBC Radio 1’s Live Lounge in 2015 to deliver a cover of ‘Shutdown’ by Skepta is also included on the upcoming release. Soft Play later teamed up with the Boy Better Know rapper to thrash out a performance of the grime classic at BBC Radio 1’s Big Weekend in Norwich.

Since returning last year with their fourth album, Heavy Jelly, Soft Play are back doing what they do best after several years away with a new name and renewed vigour.

In an exclusive interview with Far Out in 2024, Vincent said of the decision to rebrand themselves as Soft Play, “It felt dirty; everyone had preconceptions about us, and we had something hanging over our heads before we even got a chance to walk through the door,” Vincent says of their old moniker. “We had taken the decision to defend it out of a place of fear of what might happen if we changed it, and we backed ourselves into a corner that we never wanted to be in.”

This summer, Soft Play are set to play a series of huge festivals in Europe, such as Pinkpop, Hellfest, and Benicassim. They will also perform with The Libertines in Margate and Gunnersbury Park, appear at Reading and Leeds, and head out on a North American headline tour later this year.
