Soccer Mommy is one of our hotly tipped artists for the coming year. Her signing to Fat Possum was a sure-fire indication of her hype, but what’s more is her uncanny ability to make bedroom pop fit for every bedroom in the world.
Her new track ‘Inside Out’ is further testament to this fact. It’s taken from her upcoming mini-album Collection and is indicative of her artistry. Lo-fi and tangible it feels direct and without hubris all delivered with a joyous lust for life.
The video is an embodiment of this as the band seemingly get the date of Halloween wrong. Oops. But also, seemingly, don’t care all that much and just dig the masks. We couldn’t agree more. Sophie (AKA Soccer Mommy) said of the track “‘Inside Out’ is a song I wrote about feeling helpless about the future and the outcome of a relationship. It reflects a feeling of wanting to have a power over someone, but knowing that you actually have none. The video shows that loneliness in some moments, but – with the monster masks – also reflects a darker side, because those feelings bring out a person’s demons.”
