Soccer Mommy recently confirmed that she was about to embark on a brand new singles series which sees the indie rocker, AKA Sophie Allison, team up with some of her favourite artists and trade covers.
The first instalment saw Allison work with Jay Som for a cover of one another’s songs and now the latest edition has arrived with Allison joining forces with MGMT’s Andrew VanWyngarden.
Soccer Mommy covers the MGMT track ‘Indie Rokkers’ from their seminal album Time to Pretend form 2005. Meanwhile, VanWyngarden has remixed Allison’s own ‘circle the drain’ from her latest record.
“I love MGMT so it was hard to pick a song to cover,” Allison shared in a statement. “They have so many great ones. I ended up choosing ‘Indie Rokkers’ because I thought it would fit my voice and my style the best. I also just thought it’d be cool to do a deep cut since a lot of people have already covered some of the bigger MGMT songs.”
VanWyngarden says he was “V psyched to try out adding some additional seasoning to the already tasteful sounds of Soccer Mommy.”
The fortnightly series, called Soccer Mommy & Friends Single Series, will see a few more gems to be discovered yet. For now though, listen to the two tracks below and get yourself ready for the weekend.
