The Smashing Pumpkins and Chris Stapleton to play non-partisan July 4th concert
The Smashing Pumpkins and Chris Stapleton have joined the line-up for America’s Block Party, a politically non-partisan concert being held on July 4th.
As part of this year’s Independence Day celebrations, which will honour 250 years since America signed the Declaration of Independence, the country will see a number of huge concerts taking place.
America’s Block Party will take place at the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum, hosted by Queen Latifah and organised by America250, a non-partisan group established by Congress’ United States Semiquincentennial Commission, which is in charge of planning all the events for the 250th anniversary.
In a statement (per Rolling Stone), Smashing Pumpkins drummer Jimmy Chamberlain said: “Playing the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum on July 4 for America’s 250th is a rare kind of moment.”
He added: “We’ve always believed in the power of music to be a unifying principle. It brings people together and allows them to express themselves in a forum that has a common destination — and it allows all of us the opportunity to participate in a celebration that has meaning, history, and impact.”
It comes as Donald Trump’s separate celebrations, dubbed Freedom 250, fell to pieces with artists such as Bret Michaels, The Commodores, and many more pulling out of the event as they allegedly felt misled, having first been told it was a non-partisan gig.
For the part of the America’s Block Party show, further details on the line-up will be announced over the coming weeks, while additional shows in Milwaukee, Kentucky, Charleston, Boston, and Philadelphia will also share information soon.
Tickets for the Los Angeles concert will be priced at $17.76 each, while 5,000 tickets will also be donated to first responders, veterans, and service members. As a whole, profits from the full show will be donated to the charity Feeding America.
Tickets for America’s Block Party at the Los Angeles Coliseum will go on sale from June 16th at 10am local time.
