The Irish musician performed her hit song ‘Nothing Compares 2 U’ live on the show, a track originally written by Prince. With that song in mind, Good Morning Britain hosts Piers Morgan and Susanna Reid began to ask about her relationship with funk and R&B icon.
“We tried to beat each other up,” O’Connor began. “This is not a joke, it was a really frightening experience.”
Sinead continued: “It was in LA, he summoned me to his house and foolishly I went along. He was uncomfortable that I wasn’t his protégé and he wanted me to be. He was wanting me to be a protégé of his and ordered that I don’t swear in my interviews.
She added: “I told him where he could go.”
Apparently, according to O’Connor, after she had “told him were to go” Prince had asked the Irish singer to stop swearing before the mood changed dramatically: “Then he went for me.”
She added: “He went upstairs and got a pillow and he had something hard in the pillow. I ran out of his house, hiding behind a tree.
“We meet on the highway in Malibu at five in the morning – I’m spitting at him, he’s trying to punch me. I had to go ring someone’s doorbell, which my father always told me to do if I was in a situation like that.”
O’Connor added the claimed that Prince was “into some pretty dark drugs at the time,” and said: “I’m not the only one he went at.”
She concluded: “One of the girls in his band was in the hospital with broken ribs at the time.”
