Showrunner rules out any new seasons of ‘And Just Like That’
Michael Patrick King, the showrunner for the Sex And The City spin-off And Just Like That, has ruled out the possibility of any new seasons of the show.
When Sex And The City originally ended in 2004, Carrie Bradshaw (played by Sarah Jessica Parker) ended up realising that she was enough on her own. While Big moving to New York with the intention of being with her was an exciting turn of events, she had a revelation within her own independence.
The series finale of And Just Like That is somewhat comparable. One of New York’s most iconic singletons remained single, and King confirmed that this was very much intentional. He has said he liked the idea of the viewer imagining what is next for Bradshaw as opposed to giving it to them.
King ruled out the possibility of taking the series any further, as he said, “Anyone else could keep going,” before adding, “I can’t”,
The series ended on August 14th. In an interview with Variety ahead of the finale, King spoke in detail about the importance of a character like Carrie Bradshaw and what she means to people. While being funny, she is also reassuring in how comfortable she is with being single.
Holding back tears, King confessed, “It’s mostly for someone who feels bad because they don’t have someone.”
Sarah Jessica Parker also confirmed that she thought And Just Like That was the perfect end for Bradshaw. When asked, she said, “I think this is it. This feels like where we should leave Carrie Bradshaw […] Then we stop.”
