Short Porch share first ever music video for ‘When the Whole World Shook’

Brooklyn’s finest indie rockers Short Porch have released their first ever music video for ‘When the Whole World Shook’.

The band from Bushwick have been working towards the release in a strictly DIY capacity for around a year now. While most of their efforts have been spent on producing tracks and playing plenty of live shows, the video showcases the ambitious outlook for the rising group.

The track, ‘When the Whole World Shook’, is a gathering storm of moodiness and their typical exultant rhythms. Tesselating textured guitar wails and a steady melody drives the anthem towards a grooving crescendo that feels not unlike a shot of liquor being thrown back—portentous and enlivening in equal measure.

The video that they have chosen to launch the track, which first appeared on their stellar release, The Best of… Short Porch vol 1, features a singing moon and swirling graphics. The whys and wherefores behind this choice remain joyously obfuscated.

So, who are Short Porch? Well, when we first spoke to the band almost a year back, they explained, “Short Porch is Sean McNulty (guitar/vocals), Jon Hunt (bass/vocals), Joe Mudge (guitar/vocals), Mary Kate Mulhauser (keys/vocals), and Joe White (drums). Formed in the winter of ‘22 in Brooklyn, the band has been steadily gaining a local following, playing significant NYC venues like Elsewhere, TV Eye, and Sultan Room.”

They come hotly recommended from Far Out, with the group embodying an old school elbow grease spirit along with a steady stream of hot hits. As they added, “Whenever I think of my band, I think of a night out. I think of beers with friends, maybe some bad decisions—those nights that are maybe a little bit grimy, but mainly just good times with friends.”

The track and video alike both carry a strong sense of that essence. The lyric video is resplendent with beautiful little vignettes of life like, “Or am I folding your thong while you’re ordering Chinese food”.

With more new music in the works, hopefully it is the first new video of many for the group.
