Shirley Manson and Fiona Apple Collaborate on cover of ‘You Don’t Own Me’

The third annual GIRLSCHOOL Festival, a now welcomed tradition in Los Angeles has seen some surprises this weekend. Appearances from Karen O and Best Coast were wonderful, but last night visitors got an extra special treat.

The benefit is in aid of the Los Angeles Girls Rock Camp which aims to help “women-identified-fronted bands and women artists,”. So what a welcomed surprise then to have two powerhouses take the stage together for one truly memorable moment.

Shirley Manson (Garbage) and Fiona Apple collaborated on a truly mesmerizing cover of Lesley Gore’s ‘You Don’t Own Me’ to a rapturous audience. Besides the obviously wonderful song choice Apple also made a homemade t-shirt emblazoned with ‘KNEEL PORTNOW’ in obvious reference to the Recording Academy’s President’s recent comments about women.

Manson has been a strong advocate of recent movements and has recently shutdown Weinstein and Morrissey with her impeccable commentary.
