Sheffield’s The Leadmill launches crowdfunder to set up new venue
The team behind the historic Sheffield venue The Leadmill has launched a crowdfunding campaign to find a new home.
Last May, The Leadmill lost its eviction battle and was given three months to leave the premises after an unsuccessful High Court appeal.
This came after Electric Group, which owns the 900-capacity venue that has operated since 1980, first served an eviction notice on The Leadmill in March 2022, which has led to a three-year legal battle.
After losing the High Court appeal, the team behind The Leadmill said they were “truly devastated by this outcome, but we also know hand on heart that we did everything possible to stop The Leadmill being evicted.”
Additionally, they vowed to “continue fighting for independent music and culture in Sheffield” despite the eviction notice.
The final concert held at The Leadmill, under the original management, took place on June 27th, 2025, with Miles Kane taking to the stage. The prior home of the Leadmill is set to re-open as Electric Studios later this year.
Now, the team behind The Leadmill have launched the new campaign, #TheNewLeadmill – Powered By The People, to help find their new permanent home.
A spokesperson for The Leadmill said: “This campaign is about safeguarding independent culture. If The Leadmill has ever been part of someone’s story – a first gig, a favourite night out – this is a chance to help ensure it exists for the next generation.”
The press release also clarified that the campaign is “designed to provide long-term stability by funding venue acquisition, technical infrastructure, accessibility improvements and the preservation of its cultural heritage”.
As of writing, the campaign has raised close to £2,000 and is aiming to secure £30,000. They pledged to hold the donations in “a ring-fenced account dedicated solely to the creation of the new venue”.
