Self Esteem announces ‘A Complicated Woman Live’ in London’s West End

Following the announcement of her third album A Complicated Woman, Self Esteem has shared plans to take the record to the West End of London.

Self Esteem, Rebecca Lucy Taylor’s musical alias, revealed the new album on January 21st, along with the release of her new single, ‘Focus is Power’. This marks her first piece of new music since 2021’s Mercury-nominated Prioritise Pleasure.

After touring the album relentlessly for two years, Taylor starred in a West End production of Cabaret, and now she’ll be returning to the stage for a limited run of dates at the Duke of York’s Theatre in London.

A Complicated Woman is slated to arrive on April 25th, 2025, but before then, Taylor will perform the album as part of a unique and theatrical presentation on April 16th, 17th, 18th and 19th at the Duke of York’s.

The new stage show is a collaboration between Taylor and Tom Scutt, who acts as the designer and director. It promises to be “an ambitious quasi-theatrical experience that harnesses the power and energy of a gig but presents it through a theatrical format”. Tickets go on sale for those who have pre-ordered her album on February 3rd, and general sale is set for February 5th.

Meanwhile, in a recent interview with The Guardian, Taylor said of A Complicated Woman: “The point of the record is to go: it’s never fucking over. It’s not as simple as, ‘boss bitch, here we go!’ It just isn’t. You might exercise for six months every day, and then you might just fucking not for a bit. I still go, oh, there’s this person I should be, and I’m not, and hate myself for that.”

She also shared of the record’s overarching themes: “This album is about a woman screaming, and I’m fed the fuck up, and I’ve given up, in loads of ways. But then, I’m defiant again.”
