Scarlett Johansson becomes highest-grossing Hollywood actor with ‘Jurassic World: Rebirth’
Scarlett Johansson has now become the highest-grossing actor in Hollywood, with the help of the box office success of her most recent film, Jurassic World: Rebirth.
The latest blockbuster in the Jurassic Park franchise, in which Johansson stars in the lead role opposite Mahershala Ali and Jonathan Bailey, opened internationally on July 2nd.
So far, it has amassed a fortune of $318.3 million, making it one of the highest-earning openers for a movie this year, and following in the footsteps of its predecessor, Jurassic World: Dominion, released in 2022, which became one of the most expensive films ever made.
Adding the success of Jurassic World: Rebirth into the weight of Johansson’s wealth, she now becomes the highest-grossing lead actor in the world, with a cumulative fortune of approximately $14.6 billion, narrowly overtaking Samuel L Jackson for the position in the process.
Of course, a significant element of this money comes from Johansson’s previous stint in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, where she played the character of Black Widow in some of the company’s most successful movies of that era, such as Avengers: Endgame and Avengers: Infinity War.
It comes as the actor has spoken openly numerous times about her excitement regarding her role in the Jurassic World franchise, having been a huge fan of the original as a child and explaining this during a meeting she had with legendary director Steven Spielberg.
She previously said: “It hit every part of what makes a movie great in a theatre, and it felt like everyone was having such a collective experience. It was so thrilling and has stayed with me forever. Those kinds of movies are rare, and I’m here for them. I’m here to be carried away, entertained and thrilled.”
