Sam Rockwell calls America “a shit show” in new interview
In a new tell-all interview, Hollywood star and Oscar winner Sam Rockwell has aired his grievances with the current state of America. Speaking to Variety, the actor clarified his perspective on American politics in four simple words: “It’s a shit show,” he said, visibly uneasy.
Rockwell is no stranger to playing critical political roles. He won an Oscar for his role in Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri and was Oscar-nominated for his portrayal of George W Bush in Vice. But now, the actor is lost for words. He said, “Man, I don’t even know where to begin. It’s not great.”
When asked if he still has hope for the future of America, the actor didn’t quite have a fully fleshed answer to hand. “I wouldn’t know where to begin,” he admitted.
However, Rockwell reflected on the joy and commonality that art can bring to people during crises. “It’s rough out there,” he admitted. “I’m an entertainer. But hopefully, you can speak through your work and provide some kind of catharsis for people through movies and theatre.”
In a similar turn of words, actor Kristen Stewart also noted how Trump is ruining the entertainment industry one decision at a time. When asked about Trump’s proposal for film industry tariffs, she said: “We discuss this every day, like, what’s gonna happen? Not that it wasn’t treacherous before, but now, [it is] in a way that is so literal, so strikingly essential and vital, but naturally terrifying. [Trump’s] shadow is bleak and very dark … we should expect the worst and fight for the best.
In the same interview, Rockwell discussed his submission in the supporting drama actor category in the Emmy Awards, despite short appearances in only four episodes in the latest White Lotus season. “It’s really up to the voters,” he shared.
Adding, “It’s weird because I’m in the same category with Walt [Goggins], Jason Isaacs, Patrick Schwarzenegger and Sam Nivola — those guys are really leads going into supporting. And I’m really a guest, going into supporting. It’s not really fair or cool, but it is what it is.”
