Sam Fender confirms plans to make fourth album and discusses new collaboration with Elton John

Sam Fender and Elton John have discussed their upcoming collaboration, ‘Talk to You’, set for release on October 17th.

The new track is set to appear on a deluxe edition of Fender’s third album, People Watching, which is scheduled to arrive on December 5th, according to the ‘Seventeen Going Under’ singer.

During a new conversation between the pair on Elton John’s Rocket Hour on Apple Music 1, set to be broadcast at 5pm BST on October 18th, Fender explained how the collaboration came about.

He explained: “It took three years to make the whole thing, and I had so many songs and I basically had a whole other albums worth of stuff by the time we’d finished People Watching. And to be honest with you, ‘Talk to You’ and a couple of the songs off this deluxe, this happens every time. I wish this song and there’s ‘Main Street’ and there’s a couple of different tunes from the deluxe that I would’ve preferred to have probably had on the standard, and this is one of them, but this happens every time.”

Fender continued, “So when we started this one, I don’t know what it was, it was like I had this one piano, I had that piano part, which is the main riff. And, obviously, we were at Chiswick at the time. And I was like, ‘Oh, I would love to get somebody better at piano than me.’ I was like, ‘I wonder who I know. Who can I call?’

John also said of contributing to the track, “It was so much fun to come and play on one of your songs, because we’ve been friends for a long, long time.”

Elsewhere during the chat, Fender pledged, “I’m going to make another album, I think. I’ve got a load of other songs, so I want to make another record.”

Fender has just wrapped up a tour in the US, and then has dates in Australia next month, but said that once his live shows are concluded, “I’m going to get straight back and then get it done.”

During a concert at Wythenshawe Park in Manchester in August, Fender, who has struggled with his voice over the last year, told fans that he plans to “sort my shit out” and take some time off before returning with new music in the future.

‘Talk to You’ is out on October 17th.
