Ryan Gosling is being lined up to play the lead role of a stuntman in the forthcoming untitled drama film directed by David Leitch.
Leitch, whose previous director credits include projects such as Deadpool, Atomic Blonde, Fast & Furious and more, is setting himself up for a hectic schedule in the coming months and is already in pre-production on the Sony action film Bullet Train starring Brad Pitt.
However, for Leitch, the chance to work on a deeply personal project alongside Gosling was too tempting to resist. Having started his career as a stuntman, Leitch worked as a stunt double for both Brad Pitt and Jean-Claude Van Damme before moving into the director’s chair. The impending new picture will look at him exploring his own vast experience of the subject to guide Gosling through.
According to a report in Deadline, Leitch’s stuntman drama came to fruition after Universal Pictures managed to fight off vast competition in order to win the rights to the film during a heated bidding war. To add some gravitas to the project, Drew Pearce, who previously worked with Leitch and wrote the Fast and Furious script, has been drafted in for the stuntman screenplay.
Other high profile names are attached to the picture and Guymon Casady will be on producing duties while Entertainment 360. Gosling, while taking the lead, will be producing through his company and 87North partner Kelly McCormick is involved.
Universal edged out competition from the likes of Netflix, Paramount and MGM and more.
