Royal Blood share euphoric new track ‘Limbo’
Royal Blood have become adventurous on their euphoric new single, ‘Limbo’, which continues to show that the duo has returned a hungrier and more audacious act compared to the one who gave us the 2017 effort How Did We Get So Dark.
It could have been easy for Royal Blood to have played it safe with their forthcoming record because, in truth, they are already an arena-filling behemoth. Instead, they have challenged their creative ability and evolved on Typhoons, which is the most thrilling body of work from their back catalogue. The album lands on April 30th, and the disco-rock anthem ‘Limbo’ captures a side to Royal Blood that many didn’t know even existed.
Speaking to Annie Mac on Radio 1, frontman Mike Kerr proudly said: “This is kind of the track where I feel like we let loose the most, and went as we felt we could with this concept and this sound. We just felt completely unleashed.
“It was another song that was made during lockdown. It didn’t even start as a Royal Blood song; it just started off as something, whatever it was, and then before we knew it, it just turned into this five minute kind of epic. I’m so glad that it’s a single, and it’s one of my favourites for sure.”
There’s an intoxicating charm to the track, reminiscent of Villains period Queens Of The Stone Age, but taking it a step further than the LA rockers did back in 2017. ‘Limbo’ sees Royal Blood explore a swirling kaleidoscope of neon colours, a chance to express themselves like never before.
Their first two records both topped the charts and were searing successes that showed that Royal Blood are a mean force and made them one of Britain’s biggest bands. However, they weren’t the most expansive or daring records in the world, ‘Limbo’ shows that even though they are only a duo, they’ve had the potential inside of them to do more.
Now they are finally reaping the rewards of experimentation.
