Roundhay Festival announced in Leeds by BST Hyde Park team
A huge new festival is coming next summer. Roundhay Festival is coming to Roundhay Park in Leeds, heralded by the same minds behind BST Hyde Park.
The festival will debut next summer, before hoping to become a central fixture in North England’s cultural calendar. The first headliner will be announced soon, a press release promised.
Roundhay Festival is set to boost the local economy. Launched in collaboration with Leeds City Council, it aims to engage local suppliers, employ local staff, and increase overall spending. The mid-week programme on offer will be free-to-access for all ages and will provide a platform for local talent.
The park itself spans over 700 acres of lakes, woodlands, and formal gardens. It has already hosted acts such as The Rolling Stones in 1982, Madonna in 1987, Michael Jackson in 1988, and, more recently, Ed Sheeran in 2019. The area can hold up to 70,000 people.
Organisers AEG Presents, who also run London’s BST Hyde Park, plan to helm premium festival experiences and world-class performances at the new event. Jim King, the CEO of AEG Presents UK and European Festivals, shared, “This landmark event gives us the opportunity to bring world-class artists and world-leading production to even more fans, while building on the park’s incredible musical legacy.”
The festival is in partnership with American Express, which has promised Card Members perks such as early access tickets, offers, and experiences at the festival.
Councillor James Lewis, who is the leader of Leeds City Council, added to this sentiment: “Roundhay Festival will act as a wonderful showcase for our city, raising its profile with national and international audiences while delivering an important boost to the local economy. I’m sure music fans, not just in Leeds but across the region and beyond, will agree with me when I say ‘roll on next summer’.”
More information on the line-up will be available very soon.
