Rose Byrne reveals part of Golden Globes speech that she “regrets”

If I Had Legs I’d Kick You actor Rose Byrne has revealed that there was a small part of her Golden Globes speech that she looks back on with “regret”.

At the January ceremony, the actor took home the Golden Globe for ‘Best Female Actor – Musical or Comedy’ for her role as a mother on the verge of a nervous breakdown, caring for her child who is suffering from a mysterious illness in Mary Bronstein’s latest feature.

The actor prospered over Wicked: For Good‘s Cynthia Erivo, The Testament of Ann Lee‘s Amanda Seyfried, One Battle After Another‘s Chase Infiniti, Bugonia‘s Emma Stone, and Song Sung Blue‘s Kate Hudson.

When taking to the stage, she revealed that her longtime partner, Bobby Cannavale, was not in attendance at the ceremony as he was purchasing a bearded dragon at a reptile expo in New Jersey.

Since Byrne has been asked multiple times about the meaning behind the trip, and has clarified that he was making the purchase on behalf of their kids: “Everyone was thinking it’s for Bobby. It’s not! It’s for our children. The children,” she stressed to Entertainment Weekly.

In a new interview with the LA Times, the 46-year-old actor has confessed that she “regrets” including the funny quip in her teary-eyed speech.

“I really regret that,” she told the publication, adding, “I’m an essentially pretty private person, and it’s a tough line you have to straddle with the press. I definitely learned a lesson.”

In a four-star review of If I Had Legs I’d Kick YouFar Out wrote: “The storyline calls for an endless range of emotions, moods, and attitudes, ranging from subtle or unconscious reactions to furious or desperate outbursts, all of them captured perfectly by Byrne in a naturalistic performance that provides a warts-and-all portrait of a well-intentioned parent stretched to her limit.”
