Ronnie Wood reveals new Rolling Stones portrait series to mark his 50th anniversary in the band

Ronnie Wood has revealed a new series of portraits of himself and his Rolling Stones bandmates, to mark his 50th anniversary in the iconic group.

The paintings of Wood, Mick Jagger, Keith Richards, and the band’s late drummer Charlie Watts will form part of a new Paint It Black series, with each print of the pieces available to buy from Wood’s store, having been specially signed by the artist with a personalised message.

Speaking of the collection, Wood said in a statement: It’s hard to believe it’s been 50 years since I joined The Rolling Stones. In these portraits I wanted to capture the spirit of Mick, Keith, me, our late friend Charlie Watts, and the live shows we’ve been lucky enough to play together.”

He added: “Art has defined my life, and I’ve been painting even longer than I’ve been playing music.” Prior to finding fame in the rock music world, Wood had studied at the Ealing College of Art, alongside his two brothers.

The paintings come as The Rolling Stones have recently released a reissue of their iconic 1976 album Black and Blue, which celebrates its 50th anniversary next year.

The album marked Wood’s first outing with the band, after their former guitarist Mick Taylor had quit in 1974.

This move marked even more stratospheric heights in the course of the guitarist’s career, after he had already become an iconic member of the Faces alongside Rod Stewart

Personalised and limited edition prints of Wood’s portraits are available to buy now from his online shop, with the original pieces able to be seen in person as they are displayed at the Redhouse Originals Gallery in Harrogate.
