Ronnie Wood reveals he’s reached cancer-free milestone in health update
The Rolling Stones guitarist Ronnie Wood has revealed that he’s now reached a vital cancer-free milestone.
Wood was first diagnosed with lung cancer in 2017, which he overcame. Sadly, he had another fight with cancer again during the lockdown in 2020, but successfully beat it once more.
In 2021, Wood previously said of his health scares, “I’ve had cancer two different ways now. I had lung cancer in 2017 and I had small-cell more recently that I fought in the last lockdown.”
He also put his survival down to a “higher power”, adding, “That brings you back to the (AA and NA’s) Serenity Prayer: ‘Grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change’. That’s incredible. What will be will be, it’s nothing to do with me.”
Now, in a new interview with USA Today, Wood has provided a new health update, revealing more positive news about his cancer-free life.
He joyously shared, “Oh, great. I got the news a couple of months ago from my cancer doctor. He said, “Ronnie, I never want to see you again.” He said, “You’ve got a clean sheet … give me a hug.”
Wood then proudly recalled, “Then he said, “You’ve followed all of your medicine and instructions correctly and we’ve got rid of it.”
The Faces icon also shared that his doctor “had a tear in his eye” when he delivered the life-affirming news to him.
Wood continued, “He said, ‘I might come to a show, but I don’t have to see you medically.'”
In the same interview, Wood, who is now 79, said of his ambitions for the rest of his creative life, “I think what a blessing it is to be able to paint and express myself and be able to play and express myself. I just thank my lucky stars that my higher power is looking after me.”
Meanwhile, Wood returned to the stage last night alongside Mick Jagger at an intimate event in London to treat a handful of lucky fans to the live debut of The Rolling Stones’ ‘Ringing Hollow‘.
The new track is set to appear on their forthcoming album, Foreign Tongues, which is set for release on July 10th.
