Ronnie Wood provides update on The Faces reunion with Rod Stewart
Ronnie Wood has provided a fresh update on The Faces reunion with Rod Stewart, confirming it remains on the cards.
The iconic trio, which also features drummer Kenney Jones, have been talking up the chances of a new album and full-blown reunion for many years. However, no material has yet surfaced.
Now, during an appearance on the BBC Radio 4 programme Desert Island Discs on October 12th, Wood reiterated that it remains the plan to reunite, sharing, “We would love to do that. We’ve got these songs that we’re working on from back in the day, but it’s hard to make our times tally.”
The Rolling Stones guitarist continued, “When we do get a chance to get in the studio again, we will finish off these songs. We’ve got a good body of songs going.”
He also reflected on joining Stewart as a special guest during the singer’s Pyramid Stage set at Glastonbury Festival this summer, sharing, “Absolutely nothing had changed”. Wood continued, “It came over really well and he knows what he’s doing.”
His latest comments come after Jones confirmed in an interview with The Telegraph in March that The Faces have recorded “about 11 tracks” at RAK Studios in London, including one with Jools Holland. The drummer stated: “Not all of them are going to be right [for the album]. But most of them are good.”
When asked for a timeline on a potential release, Jones added: “I can’t see it coming out this year. But I can see it coming out next year. Everyone’s doing different things. We do little snippets [of recording] here and there. Then all of a sudden, The Stones are out [on tour] again, Rod’s out again…”
Last November, while on the Soccer A-Z podcast, Stewart was also optimistic about the future of the Faces and revealed he was due to meet with Jones and Wood the following day because they were “working on a documentary” to celebrate a landmark anniversary. He also said, “We’re trying to put out an album.”
Their last album, Ooh La La, was released in 1973. The group reunited, with Mick Hucknall on vocal duties instead of Stewart, for a tour in 2010 and 2011. However, they later performed with Stewart at his 70th birthday party in 2015, which set the wheels in motion for the original band to return.
