Ron Howard shares trailer for new movie ‘Eden’ starring Jude Law, Ana de Armas, and Sydney Sweeney

A teaser trailer starring Jude Law, Ana de Armas, Sydney Sweeney, Vanessa Kirby, and Daniel Brühl has been released, giving the first look at Ron Howard‘s new epic thriller, Eden.

From Apollo 13’s space mission from hell to The Da Vinci Code, Ron Howard has proved that he can make a film with a lasting impact. His new offering, Eden, follows a contemporary story about a group of people travelling to the Galapagos Islands in the present day—the same islands that Charles Darwin famously visited to conduct research on which he based his theory of evolution.

The promotional video opens with the lines, “You are the very definition of survival of the fittest.” Sweeney’s family reveal that they were “inspired to leave everything behind, to start anew” by the word of the visionary doctor at the head of the ostracised group. However, Armas’ character prognosticates, “By this time next year, one of us will be gone.”

Sweeney’s character seems to recognise the toxic undertones quicker than most. “They are trying their best to ruin us,” she tells her partner. “They won’t, because we are family.” Guns are brandished and displays of terrifying violence are stuffed into the short trailer.

It becomes quickly evident that the group’s most imminent danger is not a deadly climate or the collapse of civilisation, but each other. The mercurial, hushed, stormy tones of the cloudy island intensify the power struggle rattling around the group.

Part of the movie was shot in Queensland, northern Australia, which provided the type of jungle terrain ideal for a survival thriller set in a remote area with unyielding natural surroundings. The rest of the on-location shooting has taken place on the Galapagos Islands.

Noah Pink (Tetris) wrote the screenplay, based on a story he conceived alongside Howard. Eden premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival in September, where Vertical acquired it.

Eden will be released on August 22nd, 2025.
