Romare – Roots

Far Out’s Track of the Day this fine Autumn Tuesday is a thoroughly danceable number to help obliterate with the monotony of the throws of the working week and catapult us right back towards better times.

Ninja Tune signee and chief Alt-J remixer Romare has been delighting with his infectious slices of afro-house for a while now, and his brand new eight-minute thriller ‘Roots’ picks up right where he left off with debut EP Meditations on Afrocentrism and its follow-up Love Songs, Part One.

Pulsating beats are married with spoken word samples full of gospel of soul. At a time when so many so-called electronic heavyweights are readily prepared to simply regurgitate the late 80s and early 90s, it is refreshing to hear someone who is engaging and exciting with every release.

The track builds gradually, introducing us to a hook based around an industrial drone accompanied with tribal drums, before lifting off via a piano loop that is just too damn good to say no to.

By the time it draws to a close, Romare has escalated the soundtrack to full-on and raved out proportions, signalling a transition that has gone from precocious intrigue to all-out euphoria.

Stream the single here now, or get your hands on it for real via Ninja Tune on December 1st.
