Watch Rolling Blackouts Coastal Fever’s video for ‘The Only One’

Rolling Blackouts Coastal Fever have shared the visuals for their latest single, ‘The Only One’.

The Michael Ridley-directed video follows the protagonist, Pie Man, as he travels around Melbourne, before, he bumps into the band and has a well-deserved beer at the end of the day. The track appears on their triumphant album Sideways to New Italy which was released back in June. “The places are real, the people are real, the pie is made of cardboard and sticky tape,” the band commented about the video.

New Italy is a place that sits just outside New South Wales’ Northern Rivers. Rolling Blackouts previously described the place as: “A blink-and-you’ll-miss-it pit-stop of a place with fewer than 200 residents, Venetian immigrants in the late-1800s founded it and now serves as something of a living monument to Italians’ contribution to Australia, with replica Roman statues dotted like souvenirs on the otherwise rural landscape.”

The band’s Fran Keaney said in a previous press release about the record: “I wanted to write songs that I could use as some sort of bedrock of hopefulness to stand on, something to be proud of. A lot of the songs on the new record are reaching forward and trying to imagine an idyll of home and love.”

Their sophomore album featured at 20th in Far Out’s 50 Best Albums of 2020 and commented: “Sideways To New Italy sounds like the opposite of 2020, which is what makes it such a necessary tonic. It’s a record that deserves to be played at full blast whilst driving through the open roads in the middle of summer with the roof down and the sun beaming down.

“It’s impossible to ignore the feel-good energy of Sideways To New Italy and in a year when there’s been so little to feel good about, it’s a much-welcomed divine record.”
