Robin Wright says emigrating to England from the US has been “liberating”
Robin Wright has said her decision to leave America and emigrate to England has been a “liberating” experience.
The actor opened up about her move in a new interview with the Sunday Times, branding her home country a “shitshow” and explaining the many reasons she is relieved and glad to have moved across the Atlantic.
The Forrest Gump star said: “It’s liberating to be done,” before expanding, “Be done with searching, looking and getting 60 percent of what you wanted.”
From her new home in the Chilterns, to the north-west of London, Wright said she could see a stark difference in the style and quality of life compared to the United States. “I love being in this country. There’s a freedom of self here. People are so kind,” she said. “They’re living. They’re not in the car in traffic, panicked on a phone call, eating a sandwich. That’s most of America. Everything’s rush, competition and speed.”
Having taken on a major role in the drama House of Cards, in which she starred opposite Kevin Spacey, Wright explained she had moved on from the show to new horizons, stating, “I don’t really think we need to talk about Kevin. That was then.”
Namely, she is now set to star in the upcoming Amazon Prime drama The Girlfriend, which was filmed in the UK.
The actor plays the part of a bisexual woman in an open marriage, who is battling against her son’s new girlfriend. She also directed the first three episodes of the six-part series, and described the plot as being “about two women fighting over the same love. It’s a tug-of-war.”
The Girlfriend will be released on Amazon Prime on September 10th.
