Robert Pattinson was “really nervous” to work with Bong Joon-ho on ‘Mickey 17’

Robert Pattinson has admitted he was “really nervous” to team up with director Bong Joon-ho on Mickey 17, which was released on March 7th.

The film, courtesy of the Parasite director, has been long-awaited. It was originally slated for release in early 2024, but the impact of the Hollywood strikes, as well as issues relating to an IMAX release window, delayed Mickey 17 for more than a year.

The movie sees Pattinson play a man who signs up to be expendable. He gets sent on missions in space, namely to colonise an ice planet named Niflheim, and every time he dies, another version of himself is created, leading to much confusion, chaos, and comedy. It’s based on the novel Mickey7 by Edward Ashton, published in 2022.

For Pattinson, collaborating with the Academy Award-winning director was a thrilling experience. However, he was unsure of what to expect from the filmmaker, which filled him somewhat with trepidation.

He told his co-star Naomi Ackie for Hero Magazine: “I loved it. Everyone has such reverence for Bong, so in the build-up, I was really nervous, and he does have an unusual way of working. It was one of the most fun jobs I’ve ever had.”

Ackie responded by agreeing with Pattinson, stating, “So fun, I don’t remember a dull day. I was also told that on the last day or maybe at the wrap party, which I wasn’t able to go to, the crew were crying like, ‘This is one of the best experiences I’ve ever had.’ Because he’s super smart and a great leader, but he’s also super warm and surprisingly chill for the scale of movie we were making.”

Pattinson then said that filming Mickey 17 was “just a laugh” and praised Joon-ho who he said “radiates this aura, you kind of feel like you’re on a small dose of mushrooms.”
