Iconic actor Robert De Niro has injured his leg while filming Killers of the Flower Moon, the upcoming motion picture by Martin Scorsese.
According to reports, the 77-year-old actor has headed home to New York for treatment after picking up the injury in Oklahoma, where the film is shooting. However, it had been made clear that The Irishman star was not on set at the time. The extent of De Niro’s injury remains unclear.
The effect De Niro’s injury will have on production is still a question, but there has been no indication that filming will be postponed for the long term. A representative for the actor confirmed the news adding that De Niro “was always scheduled to leave for New York for two weeks so his leg injury (has) nothing to do with the production schedule”.
The film, Killers of the Flower Moon, is based on the book of the same name and stars De Niro and Leonardo DiCaprio. It is to be Martin Scorsese’s first western, set in 1920’s Oklahoma. The narrative surrounds the murders of the native Osage people on land where oil deposits were discovered.
The film has a reported budget of $200 million, making it the acclaimed directors most expensive project yet. It is set to be released by Apple TV+. Other cast members included Lilly Gladstone, Jesse Plemons, Jason Isbell and Sturgill Simpson.
Earlier this week, Apple TV+ released a first look at DiCaprio and Gladstone in the movie.
