Rob Reiner, aged 78, and wife found stabbed to death in Los Angeles home

Rob Reiner, the director of acclaimed films like Stand By Me, was found dead in his Los Angeles residence by the LAPD on Sunday.

At around 3:38pm, the Los Angeles Fire Department received a call about a possible “incident” at Reiner’s home, following which the LAPD also arrived on the scene in a matter of hours. According to Deadline, the authorities were allegedly notified by Reiner’s daughter.

As per the initial reports, two bodies were discovered at the scene with stab wounds, which has launched a homicide investigation.

The victims were a 78-year-old man (now confirmed by sources to be Reiner) and a 68-year-old woman (now confirmed to be Reiner’s wife, Michele Singer).

ABC also reported that neighbours witnessed Billy Crystal and Larry David arriving on the scene, and Crystal “looked like he was about to cry.”

The latest on-ground situation is that the LAPD have cordoned off multiple blocks in the area, as the murder investigation gains momentum.

Since this is a rapidly developing case with a lot of information yet to come from the authorities, not much has been made public at the moment in the interest of ensuring a swift and successful investigation.

Reiner was one of the most widely beloved filmmakers in Hollywood, with a long list of classics ranging from Spinal Tap to The Princess Bride.

This year, he released the highly anticipated sequel to Spinal TapSpinal Tap II: The End Continues – which proved to be the final entry in his celebrated filmography.
