Ringo Starr has spoken about his respect towards Billie Eilish and labelled her as an “incredible musician”.
The Beatles drummer spoke about the singer on a Zoom Q&A ahead of the release of his forthcoming Zoom In EP. After a fan asked Starr for his thoughts on Eilish, he noted: “It was a great pleasure for me to do the Grammys on Sunday and presenting the Best Record to Billie Eilish who I think is just incredible, and Finneas who came through for me on my EP. It was great to meet her and musically she’s great. She’s a beautiful human being.”
When Eilish was named the winner by Starr at the Grammys for ‘Record of the Year’, she mentioned how she felt undeserving of the award, which she would have handed to Megan Thee Stallion. “This is really embarrassing for me,” she began, addressing the rapper. “I was gonna write a speech about how you deserve this but then I was like ‘there’s no way they’re gonna choose me’. I was like, ‘it’s hers!’ You deserve this.”
Eilish will undoubtedly be pleased with Ringo’s praise as the singer previously named ‘Something’ by The Beatles as one of her favourite songs from her childhood and has even shared a cover of the classic track. Commenting on the effort, Eilish said: “I remember listening to this song when I was in love, or whatever, and yeah. This song really, once again, got me. I don’t know. I think that it’s such a well-put song.
“I think the lyrics say something that I barely hear, and I feel like lots of people are saying something similar, but I feel like only The Beatles could say exactly this. It’s such a thing that we feel, it’s such a human feeling. So this is ‘Something’ by The Beatles. Also, everybody knows that The Beatles were the main, probably, pool of music that we listened to growing up. This is one out of basically all of their songs that I loved and adored growing up, but this one really stuck with me.”
