Rina Sawayama recently shared the first piece of music since the release of her lauded debut album, SAWAYAMA, and now she has shared the new video for ‘Lucid’.
The Blood Pop produced track appears on her recently released deluxe edition of her debut album, a project which came out on Friday and the video is a dreamy delight. 2020 has been a year to forget for most artists but Sawayama’s story is quite the opposite. The 30-year-old released her debut album in April and the pop masterpiece provided the perfect distraction from the global pandemic.
“It’s about living a different life through dreaming, whether it’s to be with the dream girl or to be the dream girl,” Sawayama said in a statement. “Me and Lauren Aquilina wrote this together on the floor of my tiny rented living room back in early 2018.”
Sawayama added: “BloodPop sent us the beat and the melody flowed out so easily that I remember at one point I started hoovering cos I knew this would be easy to write. I’ve kept this song secret for two years so I’m so excited to finally release it to the world! 2020’s been a tough year so I wanted to finish it off with a dance bop to take us into a more hopeful 2021.”
The deluxe edition of SAWAYAMA also features a cover of her fellow Dirty Hit labelmate’s The 1975 as Sawayama takes on ‘Love It If We Made It’. Considering a shitstorm like 2020 wasn’t a big enough detriment to hold her back, 2021 seems destined to be the year that she explodes even further.
