Ride announce new album ‘Interplay’

Shoegaze outfit Ride announced that they will soon release their seventh studio album, Interplay. The LP is set to be released on March 29th, 2024, signalling the band’s third record in their second phase.

Ride have also released the lead single ‘Peace Sign’, an uplifting song to accompany the announcement. It’s incredibly catchy but also shows off the innovative guitar playing of the band, creating complex runs that continue throughout the track.

The new single started as a jam, as many tracks do before guitarist and vocalist Andy Bell turned it into something more. “I got hold of the recording and wrestled it into song form,” he said, “Lyrically, I was inspired by a film called ‘The Alpinist’ about the visionary free climber Marc-André Leclerc.”

This style represents what Ride have been doing over their last couple of albums, as Weather Diaries and This Is Not A Safe Place have been groove-infused and expansive. Judging from ‘Peace Sign’, it seems Interplay will go down a similar route.

The album promises to satisfy the band’s die-hard fans while also bringing in the wider fanbase they have managed to accumulate in their newest era.

“This album has taken a long time to make, and has seen the band go through a lot of ups and downs, maybe the most of any Ride album,” said Bell, “But it has seen us come through the process as a band in a good place, feeling able to shake off the past, and ready to celebrate the combined musical talents that brought us together in the first place.”
