Richard Ashcroft has been forced to deny claims that a bag of drugs fell out of his trousers while on live TV.
The Verve frontman, who was on Sky Sports show Soccer AM on Saturday morning, was promoting and performing some new material. Upon his entrance to the show, a Twitter user filmed an item falling from his trousers. What ensued was numerous claims that Ashcroft had dropped drugs.
However, in a strict denial, Ashcroft issued a warning to the ‘trolls’: “Just a quick message to a couple of you trolls on Twitter who are making a name for yourselves on me” he began. “Also, to you people who are moralising and virtual signalling. Number one, cocaine and I have had no relationship for decades,” he asserted.
“Number two, don’t you ever surmise what has fallen out of my pocket and don’t bring my children into it, you’re on thin ice. Don’t libel my name.
“My dad didn’t like litter and I don’t really like litter, but it gets a bit preposterous in my pocket. ‘In The Verve I was known as Columbo, so get your facts right. You’re on thin ice. Peace.”
