Red Hot Chili Peppers cash in on recorded catalogue for $300 million
Red Hot Chili Peppers have become the latest high-profile act to cash in on their recorded catalogue, inking a deal worth $300 million.
The rock group have come to an agreement with their longtime label Warner Music Group, which has been their home since 1991.
Warner Music Group have made the purchase through a joint venture with Bain Capital, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
It was previously reported in 2025 that Red Hot Chili Peppers were shopping around their recorded catalogue, which it was claimed they hoped could potentially be worth $350 million, and now, the deal has been finalised.
In 2021, Red Hot Chili Peppers sold their music publishing to rights investment and asset management company Hipgnosis (now called Recognition Music Group) for $140 million.
Their catalogue reportedly generates approximately $26 million in annual revenue, which is why they have been able to sell it for such a lucrative fee.
Red Hot Chili Peppers have not released a new album since Return of the Dream Canteen and Unlimited Love in 2022, which they took across the world on a stadium tour.
While the Red Hot Chili Peppers have been inactive of late, Flea recently used his spare time to release his debut solo album, Honora, earlier this year.
In February, the bassist confirmed that the band are currently working on another album, sharing that they had “been writing music together, recording at John Frusciante’s house, and the music feels great.”
Flea is currently on his first-ever solo tour, which includes a sole UK date at the Koko in Camden on May 26th.
