Rebecca Ferguson to join Ewan McGregor in ‘The Shining’ sequel

Rebecca Ferguson is in talks to co-star with Ewan McGregor in the upcoming sequel to the horror classic The Shining, according to Variety.

Ferguson is becoming highly sought after in Hollywood following her impressive breakthrough role in Mission: Impossible – Rogue Nation and is a high priority for a role in the new film Doctor Sleep.

Doctor Sleep, which will be an adaptation of the Stephen King novel by the same name, will see Mike Flanagan direct the film alongside producing partner, Trevor Macy who will introduce Vertigo Entertainment’s Jon Berg into the mix. Flanagan has plenty of experience in the role having already been the brains behind Netflix’s adaptation of the King suspense novel Gerald’s Game.

“Doctor Sleep follows Danny Torrance, a middle-aged man drifting through America in order to shed his father’s alcoholism which passed down to him in order to forget the events of The Shining,” according to the film’s synopsis. “After landing into a small Massachusetts town and with the aid of a cat, he becomes ‘Doctor Sleep”‘ After meeting a young girl with the most powerful shining Danny’s ever seen, he must now face the demons of his past and the demons of the present in order to save her from a horrifying evil known as ‘The True Knot’.”
