Real Estate fired guitarist Matt Mondanile amid sexual misconduct allegations

It was May last year that guitarist Matt Mondanile left the band to focus on Ducktails project. Little information was released following his departure as both sides parted ways silently. However, in a new statement released by the band, Mondanile was actually fired due to the “unacceptable treatment of women”.

The 32-year-old, who released his most recent Ducktails record via his own label, claimed that major label Domino ‘didn’t want to put it out’ and brushed off any potential suspicion. However, Mondanile’s demise has been given some basis amid fresh allegations of sexual misconduct.

“Matt Mondanile was fired in February 2016 when allegations of unacceptable treatment of women were brought to our attention,” a band statement. “While we urged him to seek counseling at the time of termination, we are no longer in contact.

“We feel that any abuse of one’s power or status to victimize another is completely unacceptable. We applaud the courage of the women who came forward to make us aware so that we could address the issue head on.”
